Once a year, the German-speaking street photography community grabs its cameras and meets in person instead of just in the comment sections. In 2026 it heads southwest: the 6th Meet & Street takes place on 11 July 2026 in Freiburg, organised by the Black Forest Streets Collective.
It all started in 2021 in Frankfurt with just 40 photographers. Today the Meet & Street is the scene’s annual “class reunion,” touring a new city every year – after Frankfurt, Hannover, Nuremberg, Hamburg and Dresden, it’s now Freiburg’s turn. Around 250 street photographers from German-speaking countries and beyond are expected.
The motto stays the same: One day · One city · One passion. And the best part: it’s an open event – no registration required. If you’re up for photography and good company, you’re in.
The programme
Friday, 10 July – The legendary eve. A relaxed kick-off from 4 pm at the gallery in the beer garden of the Hausbrauerei Feierling on Augustinerplatz. Cold drinks, snacks, getting to know each other – the easy way into the weekend.

Saturday, 11 July – The main event.
- 10 am – Meeting point at Konrad-Adenauer-Platz (in front of the Konzerthaus): participant materials, drop off your photos for the Open Gallery, welcome, group photo – then out to the photo walks.
- From 1 pm – Open Gallery on Augustinerplatz.
- From 5 pm – The grand finale at the Kastaniengarten by the Greiffenegg-Schlössle, high above the rooftops of Freiburg.
Photo walks
Freiburg is compact – but that’s exactly the trap. Hidden courtyards, reflections, light moods, urban details, the Minster and of course the Bächle: subjects on every corner.
Open Gallery – from the street, for the street
From 1 pm the photos are displayed on construction fences on Augustinerplatz and can be bought by passers-by. The proceeds go to the street magazine FREIeBÜRGER e.V.
Taking part is easy: bring two photos of your choice in A4 format. On site they go into clear sleeves on the prepared hanging system – just bring them and have them hung up.
Freiburg specials
Between photo walks, the city’s classics are worth a look (and a taste):
- Bächle: the 800-year-old water channels. Legend says whoever steps in must marry a local Freiburger.
- Lange Rote: the cult sausage from the Minster market. The eternal question: whole or split?
- Kalte Sofie: the classic drink at the “Alte Wache” on Münsterplatz.
- Freiburger Bobbele: a sweet mix-up – locals vs. the pastry of the same name at Konditorei Café Schmidt.
- The Schwabentor: a city gate with its own legend – and the climb up to the Kastaniengarten, where the day winds down.
